The Perfect CV

In my line of work I write a fair few articles, I read, I write and then I read some more. As I have spent the last few years in the recruitment industry, I understand the value of putting together a good CV. And here’s the truth, there is no great mystery to writing a CV. Consider article writing! If I could deliver an article a minute, believe me I would, however in reality if the content I produce makes no sense. Then what is the point, we both loose out! You will go elsewhere! Producing a quality CV is no different. Think about it, I am not writing this article for myself, I am writing it for you. You see this is all about the personal touch – the reader – your potential employer! Vital tip number one! Keep it personal! Creating a personalised CV is worth thirty standard CV’s sent out at random.Vital tip number two - take your time. Always remember your potential employer has likely received a number of CV’s. Your CV is your window of opportunity to stand aside from the competition. Take your time and think it through!

Taking your time when creating your personalised CV shows in your writing, Further with your research in place it shows your potential employer that you are the best person for the job.

Of course when you create your CV there is standard information that is required, name, address & contact details (NO Typo’s or spelling mistakes) however the rest is a personal choice; remember you want to grab your employer’s attention. Keep it fresh! Keep it personal! There is no standard approach.

Your potential employer wants to see what you have done, but at the same time they are not interested in a mechanical list. Pull your strengths out of your previous work, not simply your day to day tasks. Highlight your strengths & your knowledge over the particular role, what makes you the perfect choice.

A personal statement is important, but don’t add “I am trustworthy? or “hardworking? this is standard stuff and lets face it they expect it!

Go with your passion “Having spent the last four years within the recruitment industry, I have developed my sales skills? Keep it relevant – know your potential employer!

If you are completely stuck for structure Name, Address, Contact details, Personal statement, qualifications, work history. A cover note is also a good idea!

I often use the word passion in my articles, if you are passionate about something; you will succeed in achieving what you desire. If you follow the job that you are passionate about, it will show in your CV.

Good luck!
