Succeed at interview?
OK, so let's get the obvious stuff out of the way.
If you arrive at your interview late, looking like you have been dragged for a mile behind the back of a bus, with your CV at home, plus you know nothing of the company you are meeting with, let's face it: you are not off to a good start.
The point of the interview is to convince the employer why you are the right person for the job. If you are serious, then you are looking for a career, and if you are looking for a career, then you must know exactly what you getting yourself into. In short, research, research, research. It shows you mean business and will also make you feel more comfortable throughout the interview.
When building your CV, think about what your potential employer wants to see. Can you work under pressure? Can you work in a team? Will you get the job done? Are you focused? These are the questions that may well be asked during the interview. Think it through!
If you have done your homework and this is the job for you, ask relevant questions, be interested, and keep eye contact. It is very unlikely they are looking to employ someone with no personality and drive, so why would you act that way during the interview?
Listen to the questions that are being asked. Avoid yes and no answers as, let's face it, they are not conducive to building a relationship. Listen to what is being said you, take a second to think through your answer and react with confidence.
Remember, your potential employer is likely to interview five to ten more people after you. What makes you stick in their mind?
One final point! Before the interview, visualise the interview going well, visualise them offering you the position! Visualise the happy feeling of celebrating your new job. Believe me, it helps boost your confidence and makes a difference during the interview!
